D-Daily takeaway 🥡Oof. Another significant 24 hr drop, with the CryptoPunks floor dipping under 50 ETH for the first time since last June.

What's this? 🤔Our floor price index tracks the biggest, most influential pfp projects, art collections, and gaming assets.

OpenSea hopes to reignite trading with Gemesis metadata reveal

It's a tough time for many of the biggest NFT collections.

Trading volume is down. Floor prices are stagnating. And the standard NFT project model (launch a pfp collection, maintain a community) may well be entering its final days.

Why? There's no single reason:

  • Bitcoin and Ethereum represent better investments in '23

  • Altcoins have been ripping recently

  • Gas is high right now

  • Taxes!

And, in a space that's increasingly turning towards art and AI innovation, static pfp collections could be losing their appeal for many.

But, if there is one major cause of NFT market woes, it's Blur airdrop farming.

Like other web3 media outlets, we've spent a lot of time parsing the pros and cons of Blur's rewards program, and its strategy for capturing secondary market activity.

Without going back over old ground, it's safe to say that Blur's airdrop program has caused two things to happen:

  1. The biggest NFT collections have been rocked by strategic bidding and market manipulation

  2. OpenSea has been forced to up its benefits for serious traders

That's why OpenSea recently relaunched their pro trading platform, and began handing out rewards NFTs called Gemesis

Now, the metadata for those Gemesis NFTs is being revealed, and it turns out it reflects holders' trading pedigree.

Basically, people with the longest account history on OpenSea's Pro platform received Gemesis NFTs with the rarest traits.

The OG 1% of OpenSea users received black gems, which they can theoretically trade for higher returns.

– Assuming (and it's a big assumption) that there's a long-term market for these Gemesis assets.

Moonbirds $TALONS & Solana phone

Here are two big recent stories that maybe should have received more attention on the web3 feeds. 🤔

First up, the Moonbirds announcement that holders will now accrue daily rewards in the form of $TALONS

This will be a token-based rewards program that is likely to supplant "nesting" – the current Moonbirds system for staking assets to accumulate rewards.

What can you do with $TALONS tokens?

In a community Spaces, founder Kevin Rose said that TALONS will used within the Proof ecosystem, and will act like credit card points.

– Holders can redeem points for artworks, event tickets, and merch, as well as buying allowlist spots on future mints.

And second, a real-life web3 phone! Made by Solana

Last week, the blockchain Solana unveiled a web3 smartphone.

Saga is an Android-powered phone that's designed to be web3 native, with features like :

An app store?

Get outta here. Saga comes with a dApp store preloaded ✅

Password storage?

How 'bout a Seed Vault for safekeeping of your keys ✅

A browser?

Pffft. Don't you mean direct access to Solana dApps without needing to use browser extensions? ✅

Decrypt posted a full, hands-on review of the Saga last week.

According to them, Solana's smartphone "feels mostly like a Web2 device with a splash (albeit a meaningful one) of Web3 integration."

But – shouldn't this be bigger news?

With Saga, it's now technically possible to begin leaving web2 infrastructure & devices behind.

And, as more developers produce dApps for the Solana ecosystem, that functionality will only increase.

So, isn't this what web3, metaverse, and blockchain maxis have been waiting for?..

Saga represents the first, small step toward web3 device adoption.

It's still a fundamentally web2 Android phone, which has been redesigned by Solana to provide better access to their ecosystem.

Once smartphones become truly web3 native – and function across Ethereum and other more popular blockchains – maybe interest will begin to increase.

(Also, if it's not about flipping JPEGs, it seems like most degens just don't care. 😂😭)

If you are interested in the first web3 native phone, you can pre-order Saga now, with shipping starting next week.
