First up this week, @LucaNetz on his year anniversary at Pudgy Penguins

It's been a year since Luca Netz took the helm at Pudgy Penguins, steering the project from the brink of rugging to one of the most bullish IP projects in web3.

In this thread, Netz shares 5 key insights he's gained during his tenure – including the need for a clear vision that aligns with the community's values, and the importance of recognizing that founders serve the community, not the other way around.

Other Luca tips? Over-communication beats under-communication. Plus, the content you create should be increasing the "emotional utility" of your brand. Wise words.

Second, @nonmayorpete extracts 12 interesting trends from Stanford's huge AI report

This week, Stanford published a Harry Potter-sized book on the current state of AI.

I know you probably read the entire thing before breakfast, but just in case you haven't had time to check it out, here's a thread from @nonmayorpete, with 12 of the most interesting findings.

Those include the growing use of AI for questionable purposes like deepfaking politicians, plus how governments & the EU are scrambling to solidify AI legislation.

The number of newly funded AI startups has tripled in the last 10 years, and surveys suggest people in China believe in AI's future more than people in the US.

Read the full report on the Stanford website.

@Sartoshi_rip on the history of mfers

Here's a rare thread from Sartoshi – the enigmatic, meme-ified founder of mfers, the low-fi public-domain collection of hand-drawn illustrations.

In this thread, Sartoshi gives us a TL;DR timeline of the project and his movements over the past couple of years.

On the web3 wire

Google CEO confirms that a chatbot is coming to Google Search 🔍The AI integration should make search more conversational and flexible.

A never-before-heard David Bowie version is releasing as an NFT 🎧The alternative cut of "Let's Dance" will be available on a pay-what-you-want basis.

Happy 48th birthday, Satoshi Nakamoto! 🎂George Kaloudis reflects on the significance of April 5, 1975.

Here, @nickfloats explains Meta's new smart tool, SAM

Lots of threads for the builders, today! It's been a week of project updates and product announcements.

In this thread, @nickfloats explains Meta's new tool SAM, or Segment Anything Model.

Meta has been using versions of SAM in their content moderation efforts for a while. Now, they're making the tool public, so you can use it to cut out "any object, in any image, with a single click."

This kind of advanced object identification is super important for building AR products – one of Meta's big ambitions.

@bilawalsidhu spotlights what the team at Wonder Dynamics is working on

Wonder Studio is a video editing app that combines 3D, VFX, and editorial tools, so you can basically run a one-person visual effects studio from your phone.

(Check out the video, it's wild! And here's another example.)

As Bilawal Sidhu says in this thread, the individual features in Wonder Dynamics' product aren't groundbreaking.

But, the way it combines everything into a single, simple consumer app feels super futuristic.

Soon, even regular-ass people like myself will be able to create CG-augmented videos.

@mintplexnft explains the difference between ERCs 721A and 1155, and how to choose the right standard for your NFT project

NFT creator platform @mintplexnft wrote this thread on the differences between two of the most popular Ethereum smart contract standards: ERC-721A and ERC-1155.

They compare ERC-721A NFTs to unique paintings or works of art, while ERC-1155 NFTs are more like Olympic medals – multiple copies of the same design with unique numbers.

In this way, 721A NFTs should be used for rare collectibles, while ERC-1155 is a better standard for assets like in-game items, where multiple players can own the same object with unique serial numbers.

ERC-721 tokens might be more widely recognized among NFT collectors, but ERC-1155 offers great versatility in the right context.

@waleswoosh highlights potential issues with OpenSea's response to Blur's rewards program

Here, thread-master Wale.swoosh gives their opinion on this week's Opensea Pro announcement.

Is a $SEA token coming? Not likely.

Will OpenSea try to regain market share by offering frequent-trader rewards? Probably.

What will those rewards look like? Opensea's announcement seems to indicate that they will use NFTs as rewards instead of tokens – which Wale.Swoosh thinks is a flawed approach that could suck lots of liquidity out of the market.

That means Jarvis can build complete apps with no input from the user other than voice prompts...

K, now we really are entering the future.

And finally, @heyBarsee on AI voices
