Twitch streamer launches OnlyFans-style NFT platform

Everybody knows OnlyFans as one of the biggest internet successes of the pandemic.

But soon after headlines like a 500% revenue increase and 10X user growth came stories of dissatisfied performers and a shady centralized payment program.

Now, there’s a blockchain-based adult streaming platform that claims to offer creators a much better deal.

It’s called Shush Club – and it’s backed by Amouranth, the hugely popular Twitch streamer known for her AMSR and “hot tub” videos. Steamy…  or should I say, streamy.

What is Shush Club?

Shush Club is hoping to become a “blockchain-powered alternative to contemporary streaming platforms,” offering an NSFW NFT marketplace plus streaming and other content hosting.

Running on the Binance Smart Chain, Shush Club will use a $SHUSH token to pay performers and allow users to anonymously purchase content:

Paying creators via the blockchain could be a great idea. It might:

  • Remove local laws and government regulations

  • Give creators more direct control over revenue

  • Lower payment transfer and processing times

  • Cut commission rates (just gas fees)

  • Give fans better privacy

As for the NFT side of things, Shush Club will let creators mint their content and claim royalties on secondary sales. They say “fans that own NFTs can sell or rent them,” which sounds pretty cool – kinda like running your own XXX video store.

In her announcement tweet, Amouranth described Shush Club as a platform that “connects content creators with affiliate marketing and advertising deals…a total gamer changer.”

Here’s the company’s whitepaper.

Who is Amouranth?

Amouranth is the internet persona of Kaitlyn Siragusa, one of the most popular NSFW streamers on Twitch and OnlyFans.

In July, she tweeted her $1.5 million-a-month payslips from OnlyFans, as part of a payment dispute.

Amouranth is also known as a bit of an entrepreneur investor. She owns cool things like gas stations and an inflatable pool toy company.

Last year, an NFT OnlyPunks version of her sold for $125,000.

NFTs become the newest music format

Muse

Any MiniDisc fans in the house?

UK band Muse is on their 9th album. Called Will of the People, it’s due to release on 08/26 in all the usual formats – plus as a limited edition NFT.

That will make NFTs the first new music format officially included in the music charts since streaming in 2015 and downloads in 2005.

While anyone can buy an NFT, they’ll only qualify for the music charts in the UK and Australia – as the officials behind those charts had previously set up criteria for NFT albums.

(Basically, the chart organizers are trying to make sure that people buying music NFTs are doing so for the music rather than the NFT itself or any other added extras).

Why Muse?

  • In 2020, Muse collaborated on a set of CryptoKitties collectibles.

  • In 2021, they produced the Simulation Theory NFT Collection based on the band’s 2019 concept album and IMAX film.

What do you get?

Purchasing an NFT album is probably most similar to buying a limited vinyl record. You get some cool album artwork that’s digitally signed by Muse, giving it resale value among fans and collectors.

Unlike traditionally used records though, resold NFTs will generate commission for the band, with 15% going back to Muse, Warner Music, and Universal.

– who probably don’t need the extra cash. But the model does seem promising for upcoming artists.

The Muse NFT album will cost 20 GBP and is limited to 1,000 global copies.

VR surgery on conjoined twins

In case you suspected the concept of “remote surgery” was really just a gimmick use case for VR, surgeons from Brazil and the UK just used VR to separate twin boys who were conjoined at the head.

In a 27-hour procedure that included 7 surgeries and over 100 medical experts, three-year-old Bernardo and Arthur Lima were successfully separated from each other.

Surgeons in Rio de Janeiro and London planned for the operation using VR models of the patients that combined CT and MRI scans.

The procedure then happened in Brazil, managed by London pediatric surgeon Noor ul Owase Jeelani, who took part in the surgery via a VR headset.

The twins are successfully recovering in hospital and are about to enter six months of rehabilitation.
