MetaMask - the most successful Web3 company? $MASK is coming!

Mark Zuckerburg fights back, and who is Taro Kono?

Welcome back, today I wanted to let you know I'm on a seafood diet....I see food and I eat it.

Here are today's topics:

MetaMask – the most successful web3 company right now?

    MetaMask logo

MetaMask is crushing it right now:

    • + 30 million monthly users

    • Userbase increasing ~10% per month!

    • Big markets in the US, Philippines, Brazil, Germany, and Nigeria

    • Institutional & consumer versions

That’s all alongside ConsenSys, MetaMask’s parent company, receiving a $7 billion valuation and nearly half a billion in funding from Microsoft this spring.

    More interesting things to come

CEO Joe Lubin is ready to change things up at MetaMask, pushing forward with "progressive decentralization" in the form of a DAO and token.

    DAO

MetaMask’s DAO won’t actually control MetaMask, but it will be part of creating and funding “novel new pieces of MetaMask.” Think - $APEcoin DAO

So, no user proposals or voting then?

    Release date: unconfirmed.

    $MASK Token

MetaMask still hasn’t tokenized its protocol, leading to a constant trickle of rumors about when users can get a share of ownership in the company.

But a coin is coming. Lead of Operations, Jacobc.eth says he’s focused on “doing it in ways that are not a cash grab,” underlining that the token is very much intended as part of a community ownership overhaul, rather than an asset to speculate with.

Release date: unconfirmed (don’t buy fake MASK!)

Earlier this year, Metamask also announced a redesigned UI in response to user complaints.

    Who are ConsenSys?

    • Blockchain infrastructure company ConsenSys was founded in 2014 by Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin.

    • Products besides MetaMask include Infura, a toolsuite for Ethereum app developers, and Codefi, a platform for companies to digitize assets and create decentralized networks.

    • CB Insights ranks ConsenSys as a Highflier – the highest rating in their “Execution, Market Strength, and Positioning” matrix of the financial services industry.

    Zuckerburg responds to metaverse criticisms

Rumour has it that Mark saw our article making fun of his Horizon metaverse, and responded with more detailed images of it. You're welcome, everyone! And sorry for the bullying Mark 💘

    Our takeaways:

    • Meta has all the capabilities to match or surpass the quality of other metaverses in terms of graphics etc.

    • Horizon and Meta did a poor job planning the first imagery of their "metaverse", if you're going to put something out that you have supposedly put $10 billion towards in 2021 it should be better than the original post.

    • Mark is sensitive 😏

Is Taro Kono Japan’s new web3 daddy?

We’ve posted a few stories recently about governments reacting badly to web3’s growth. So here’s one about a government that seems way more open to the new digital world.

    Japan’s new digital minister

This month, the Prime Minister of Japan appointed a new minister in charge of Digital Affairs.

Japan has been upping its digital game recently, starting with the launch of a federal Digital Agency that helps make businesses paperless and supports the digitization of government and rural infrastructure.

Taro Kono is the man who’ll now be overseeing things.

    Who’s Taro Kono?

He’s a former tech industry chief with 2.5 million Twitter followers, who’s previously worked in the government’s department of Administrative Reform… Dreamy – tell me more!

5 cool things we just learned about Taro Kono

1 - Back in 2018, he met Vitalik Buterin for a confidential meeting.

2- He likes to post his lunch on Twitter

3 - He has a healthy respect for Scandinavian furniture

4 - When it comes to Japanese folk dancing, he can throw down

5- He donated part of his liver to his dad, even though they have opposing political views – come on!

What can't this man do? I'll be buying a Taro-flavored bubble tea in honor of him today.

    Flippers Corner

We've been tracking high ROI wallets, here’s what they have been purchasing recently. We do not recommend buying these projects, DYOR, as you could likely be someone’s exit liquidity.

    Here's what they're buying today:

A pretty novel idea, and my “flipper feed” is absolutely filled with purchases of these right now. Inspired by old-school Japanese role-playing games, these are little pixelated game characters that will have random player stats on reveal. They start with 5 HP. You can re-roll if you don’t like your stats, using up to 1 HP. Sell/transfer, lose an HP. Lose all your HP, the token gets burned and you get airdropped it's soul. 1941 sales in the last 2 hours.

What if you took Pudgy Penguins, but gave them Pepe eyes? Mind-blowing, right? If this is what you’ve been waiting for your whole life, I’ve got some great news. Pudgy Pepes are here! They say that all art is stolen, and flippers are buying the shit out of this stolen art. 11, 590 sales in the last 24 hours. 0.03 ETH floor.
