Post your NFTs on FB and Instagram

Meta is continuing to roll out NFT support across their social media platforms.

Now (initially for select US users), you can connect your wallet to Facebook or Instagram and share your digital art across both sites.

This means Flow and Ethereum NFTs are the first to be integrated.

Earlier in August, the company expanded NFT support to over 100 countries and upped the number of compatible wallets and blockchains. Instead of posting NFTs as regular images, NFT posts now carry metadata, auto-tagging creators and holders.

With Zuckerberg only announcing plans for adding NFT compatibility in March, the whole project is moving at high speed for a tech giant.

Why is Meta so keen?

We know Zuckerberg loves “connecting people.”

He loves it so much, that he wants to make it easy for you to share art with friends, inspire people with NFTs, and generally make the world a better place. …or, maybe it’s about

  • capturing growing traffic from existing NFT platforms

  • integrating NFT audiences with millions of general FB and Insta users, driving adoption

Which suggests Meta is also interested in supporting NFT trades.

Comments from Instagram confirm as much. The Head of the platform was reported talking about exploring support for NFT sales, and there are also whispers of a metaverse-ready marketplace in the future.

Meta is also working on a function that lets you use your phone’s camera to display NFTs in your environment. It looks like AR NFTs will be integrated into Spark AR, the pre-existing creator tool.

They say this experiment is just a first step towards “fully AR and 3D-native immersive NFTs in the future, like virtual items and accessories, sculptures, clothing, and more.”
