Chief Vibe Officers

It’s no secret that stock and coin prices are becoming more and more affected by emotions:

What’s the saying? The stock market is just a graph of rich peoples’ feelings.

Many economists rank consumer sentiment indexes (e.g. Fear & Greed) as some of the most important predictive tools.

Consumer confidence implies a willingness to spend, which creates demand, which means growth.

A couple weeks ago, The Milkroad compared the best NFT collections to nation-states – with large, united communities that can keep trading going through sentiment downturns.

But a mix of factors, from the crypto crash to inflation to covid, is putting pressure on consumer confidence like we haven’t seen in years (maybe decades?)

Last month, economics writer Kyla Scanlon spoke about a vibecession, the idea that we’re in a period of quickly reducing confidence or ‘vibe decline.’

In a vibecession, things feel like they’re getting much worse, even if the wider economic data doesn’t (at least yet) match our experience.

A vibecession can create a feedback loop, with reduced consumer sentiment and spending leading to fiscal measures and executive actions – perhaps eventually manifesting a full-blown recession.

For coins, the same thing can happen in micro, triggering a mass sell-off that could be almost totally unrelated to the actual utility of a project.

So how do you protect your web3 project against the value-crushing spiral of bad vibes?

By employing a vibe manager, duh.

Postings for vibe managers, or CVOs, have begun appearing on job boards over the summer. These positions are intended to shore up consumer sentiment by coordinating influencers, reassuring investors, and generally bringing the good times.

Good vibe managers require skills in marketing and investor relations (and need to be doxxed). Most have track records as successful influencers or investors. Here are a few – maybe worth a follow:

Deeze, Director of Vibes

NFT influencer Deeze manages vibes for Fractional, a decentralized protocol for collective NFT ownership. According to an interview with The Guardian, their day-to-day includes running the company’s Twitter and Discord channels, speaking with collectors, and ‘vibe checking’ events and content before it’s released.

Ashh, Chief Vibes Officer

Also known as Asher Hoffman, @ashh_eth is vibration manager for DeeKay animations and Random Character Collective, which includes the popular Invisible Friends collection. They spend most of their time on discord, answering questions and running meditation sessions.

ThreadGuy.eth, Director of Vibes

ThreadGuy.eth, or Michael Jerome, is Tally Labs’ vibe manager, the company behind the Jenkins the Valet NFT storytelling project. According to him, the position basically consists of tweeting hundreds of times per day.

Feel like you could ensure good vibes for a coin or collection? Here are some current vacancies:

Head of Vibe @ Reserve

Reserve is creating a stablecoin (RSV) and accompanying mobile app that’s already being used to tackle hyperinflation in Venezuela.
