Blockchain gaming is hitting the Epic Games store

Grit is a Western Gunslinger Battle Royale

Howdy, and welcome back to Decentra Daily, where we like to drink milkshakes in the hot summer sun to distract us from our portfolio performance.

Market sentiment analysis: Opensea volume is down %10 on the day. Perhaps people are rotating some of their NFT profits (most likely losses) into crypto, as BTC had a green week for the first time after 9 weeks in the red. It was about goddamn time! Here’s to hoping that this momentum can be maintained.

NFT and crypto sentiment go hand in hand seemingly, and purchasing NFTs when the macro sentiment of crypto is positive and price of crypto is stable is ideal. For NFTs to bounce back we likely need a positive shift in the crypto environment, and price to gradually rise/stabilize appeasing concerns of “crypto is dead” (how many times do we have to do this?).

Grit by Gala Games is the first blockchain game on Epic Games store

Gala Games is a web3 gaming company focusing on blockchain games and decentralization. You may have heard of nodes before, and Go Gala has an ecosystem based on 16,000 player-run nodes, giving players control of their NFTs (in game items), as well as voting rights in how Go Gala develops and what games are added/funded.

The first of these blockchain games that are being introduced through the behemoth that is Epic Games, is Grit

A problem with NFTs largely lies in the barrier to entry (set up crypto wallet, purchase NFT, verify NFT on game website, play boring game, earn native token, dump token, repeat). To be honest most ‘normies’ don’t want to go through the hassle to earn a token, likely going to 0 because the game isn’t fun.

This is where Go Gala comes in, they want to focus on the fun aspect first and foremost, they want the blockchain to be invisible in their games, where you don’t have to be an expert in NFTs to get involved.

Picture Fortnite, where people love the gameplay, and then all of a sudden they realize they own all their assets, perhaps even the land in the game, and they can transfer these assets to other games using Unreal Engine 5…..this is how you get the haters on board.

Epic Games store has 194 million users, which is a whole lot of eyes, double this number I believe. Tim Sweeney, Epic Games CEO tweeted the following:

A downfall of blockchain gaming so far has been the player base has been relatively small, exposure like this can help solve this…..let’s hope the game is fun, we’ll dig in!

Grit

The game is going to be a battle royale (Fornit-esque) set in the Wild West. It is being built in Unreal Engine 5 with realistic physics, which sounds cool.

Players will need to saddle up, venture around on horseback/foot, and fight their way through towns and the West.

The following is from the Epic Games store description:

Perk System

Look for weapons that build a Flush to gain special perks. Collect multiple weapon cards of the different suits to give your player special bonuses. Going all-in with a certain suit or mixing and matching . There's advantages and tradeoffs to be made depending on the cards you're collecting. Will you go all-in on gunslinging, focus on patching up your wounds after each skirmish, or find some other winning combination?

Ride Through the West

Bond with your horse, riding and controlling your trusty steed with multiple speeds. Feeling lazy? Use the equine beast o' burden as extra inventory. Horses are a great way to stay mobile, escape the all consuming calamity storm, and fire on-the-go. If you're feeling daring and have the gumption, steal your foe's horse and ride like the wind.

Tools o' the Trade

With over 20 different weapons there are more than 225 million possible loadout variations to help you and yours to the top of the gunslinger rankings. Weapons are projectile-based, so you’ll need to be a crack shot, lead targets, and account for gravity.

All Aboard

Steal loot and a seat on the last train outta town. Take charge and use the locomotive to stay inside the battle royale ring.
