The Australian Football League is releasing NFTs
Decide to go with the FLOW and join Animoca
Welcome back to Decentra Daily, where we bring you the latest and greatest NFT news on the daily.
Estimated read time: 2 minutes 40 seconds
The Australian Football League (AFL) is getting in on digital collectibles!
They have formed a partnership with Animoca (partners with Bored Ape Yacht Club) to create NFTs and list them on the AFL Mint marketplace.
For those of you who don't know, AFL is like a mixture of soccer and rugby, played without offsides, and full of incredible highlights. A goal is worth 6 points, and if you don't do a shoey after kicking it, you are shunned by your teammates.
Additionally, the AFL brings in over half a billion USD per year...so early investors may see some nice gains $$$

Details on the drop are still being released, but here's what we know so far!
Preparation for mint
1. You are able to fill out the registration form that will get you on the allowlist for their mint.
2. Be ready to receive follow up information from AFL Mints official email address: [email protected] there is NO other email address that will contact you regarding AFL NFTs.
3. Follow @AFLMint on Twitter, and join their discord.
4. Set up a Blocto wallet, which is a phone based crypto wallet that will be used for AFL Mint purchases. This drop is on FLOW, not Ethereum.
5. Fund your Blocto wallet with USDC (Flow) if you want to pay using crypto. Alternatively, you can pay using Credit Card payments (many credit card providers block crypto transactions so be careful here).
6. The purchase price for the first drop will be $49 AUD (~$35 USD) so if you are loading up your Blocto wallet make sure you have at least this amount in it.
7. Subscribe to Decentra Daily and turn on our DecentraDaily Twitter notifications so you get updated when the exact date of launch will happen.
AFL Mint NFTs
Now we are all set to receive information about the mint, and have our wallets all sorted, let's talk about the NFTs!
AFL Mint will allow you, as a fan, to trade officially licensed NFTs/digital collectibles. The NFTs include player highlights of current and past players
Additionally, AFL Mint plans on providing real-world experiences in the form of:
Exclusive events
Merchandise
Game day experiences including:
Ticket upgrades
Enhanced hospitality
Experiential zones
Here are some sneak peaks of the NFTs themselves:
AFL Mint Genesis balls

AFL Genesis balls
Ripper Skipper pack
It appears that the Ripper Skipper highlights/player cards will be the first drop according to the AFL Mint's twitter page (as pictured above).
We aren't sure when the Genesis balls will be released....but they look nice.
We get a similar vibe to NBA Top Shot with this highlights, but hope they can provide more value to holders and AFL fans than Top Shot has given supporters.
Engaging community activities

AFL Mint tipping comp
One thing we know about AFL supporters is that they are typically die hard fans of their respective clubs; and I think every other person in Australia has been in a footy tipping competition, or played fantasy football.
As such, they are a very engaged supporter base....the AFL Mint discord does a good job of fostering community involvement even before they have released an NFT.
They have an AFL mint tipping competition, quizzes for allowlist spots, and allow you to select the team you cheer for.
They also have a variety of informational material in different discord channels on NFTs, crypto, and AFL (history, banter, highlights etc.).
While the AFL market size isn't as high as the NBA's (~$6B per year), its $500M is no laughing matter with potential gains for early investors. It's also a great way to find likeminded fans, have some fun, and perhaps receive some solid perks IRL!
AFL embracing crypto
The AFL announced a partnership with Crypto.com early in 2022. A landmark 5 year partnership with Crypto.com becoming a major sponsor of both the AFL and AFLW (women's) leagues.
Here's what AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan had to say about the partnership:
"Cryptocurrency and blockchain technology is a dynamic and emerging industry, and the AFL is delighted to partner with Crypto.com to be at the forefront of the industry’s growth in Australia,"
It's great to see the most watched sport in Australia embracing both NFTs and crypto, which may lead to wider adoption.
Quality Australian NFT follows
If you are looking for Australian NFT influencers or personalities to follow on Twitter, we recommend the following:
