1. Ringers #879 (The Goose) gets valued at $3 million by Sotheby’s

Gm and happy Friday! It’s a big month for web3, with Hong Kong opening back up to retail crypto investing and Memeland expected to launch the presale for its $MEME token.

Also happening in June – Sotheby’s is back to sell more of the treasure trove of NFTs belonging to collapsed crypto hedge fund 3AC.

After the first round of sales last month netted $2.5 million, GRAILS: Part II will be a live auction taking place in New York on June 15 at 4 PM EST.

Last time, just 7 NFTs were included in the auction – but with 37 up for sale this round, Sotheby’s is calling Part II the “largest ever live auction of digital art.” 👀

What’s the highlight of the sale? It’s Ringers #879, otherwise known as The Goose – The most recognizable Ringer and an iconic piece of gen art.

3AC bought The Goose for 1800 ETH (or 6 million bucks) at the height of the last bull market in August 2021.

Bearing in mind current market conditions, where many collections are down 70-90%, Sotheby’s doesn’t think they’ll break even. But it is valuing The Goose at an eye-catching $2 - 3 million.

Ringers by Dmitri Cherniak is a generative art collection, created by an algorithm that wraps “strings” around “pegs” in random combinations.

What makes #879 so special beyond its sale history? It’s because …it’s the only one that looks like a goose? 🤷‍♀️ 😂

Also in the auction and valued in the hundreds of thousands: several Fidenzas, Chromie Squiggles, Archetypes, and Autoglyphs.

2. Talk to Satoshi Nakamoto with this chatbot

Talk2Satoshi is a new, GPT-powered chatbot that educates users on Bitcoin with a fun twist – it writes in the voice of the chain’s anonymous founder, Satoshi Nakamoto. 👤

Pierre Corbin, who directed a Bitcoin documentary, along with developer Hugo Ferrer, trained the bot on Satoshi’s old emails and forum posts, plus some Bitcoin books and papers.

That lets the bot answer technical and general questions about the blockchain, as well as imagine what Satoshi might say about Bitcoin-related topics.

According to Decrypt, however, Talk2Satoshi doesn’t know what Ordinals are yet.

But, in an interview with the magazine, the developers said they hope to update the bot’s training data to find out what Satoshi thinks about the so-called Bitcoin NFTs.

3. Nike’s .SWOOSH partners with EA

This one could be big: Future EA Sports games will include Nike’s NFT wearables.

Right now, Nike only makes digital sneakers, its OurForce 1s. But the partnership suggests the brand’s web3 platform, .SWOOSH will soon feature other types of NFT apparel and wearable accessories.

In the press release, Nike says its NFT will appear in EA titles (plural) and hopes that the integration will offer gamers “new levels of customization.”

EA’s Madden and FIFA games represent the biggest football and soccer franchises in the video game industry.

(Although, it’s worth noting that EA’s FIFA licensing recently expired, meaning the studio is looking to put a new spin on its rebranded “EA FC” soccer series.)

That’s all we know at the moment. Nike says that more info will be shared “in the coming months.”

You gotta respect Nike’s slow but constant expansion into web3! They’re in no rush, but they also seem committed. 🫡

4. “White label” brand-ready crypto wallets

Magic, a crypto wallet company, just raised $52M at a $500M valuation from investors including PayPal.

Why? Because their wallets are “white label.”

That’s the term given to customizable b2b products and services – things that other companies can purchase, add their own branding, and utilize within their ecosystems.

Companies get to design their own login interfaces, NFT galleries, and checkout pages – plus choose from 20 compatible blockchains.

Big web2 brands that have already created wallets powered by Magic include toy company Mattel, with its Hot Wheels NFT Garage, and Macy’s, which used Magic to take its Thanksgiving Day Parade into the metaverse.
