#223 - 🧶 Web3 Threads of the Week

GM daily-ers!

GM and welcome to Decentra Daily.

Ok folks, it’s time for a good ol’ threads round-em-up.

Grab your stetson and let’s find us some fresh web3 threads!

Today,

Up first, @FomoCatchers on Apple’s web3 plans

Welcome to another edition of web3 threads of the week!

FomoCatchers kicks off today’s list with a thread on Apple – so far the quietest of all the big tech companies when it comes to embracing the AI/decentralized revolution.

According to Fomo, Apple has been dropping hints about its web3 stance for a while, starting with the gradual acceptance of blockchain-connected apps on the App Store (see this week’s newsletter).

Then, there’s CEO Tim Cook’s comments on the market-dominating power of any future product that can overlay the virtual world on top of the real world.

It also looks like Apple is preparing to launch its XR headset, codenamed “Reality” at their developer conference on June 5… 👀

Second, @OnchainDataNerd considers the trades of a 70x wallet

In this thread, The Data Nerd shares details on a wallet that turned a $5,000 deposit into $350,000 by trading memecoins (that’s a 70x increase).

Interesting things about this trader’s strategy?

  • They only invested small amounts into each project, regardless of early performance ($40-80)

  • They adopted a “VC-style” approach of casting a wide net and assuming that a few winners would cover the losses of most investments.

  • Gas fees were often higher than their initial investments!

So, what’s this trader doing right now?

…They’ve converted their winnings to USDC and are slowly depositing it into Binance.

Looks like this wallet is hanging up its keys. 🫡

Third, @waleswoosh on the most influential NFT collection you might never have heard of

Do you know CyberKongz? It’s the early 2021 NFT collection that holds the record floor price for a pfp project: 210 ETH.

CyberKongz basically did everything in the pfp playbook – they launched a community token, $BANANA; introduced ERC721x, which improved wallet security, and experimented with companion asset evolution through “breeding“ Baby Kongz.

Here, Wale Swoosh gives us a project rundown and a shoutout to the CyberKongz community, who played a big role in the success of later projects, especially BAYC.

On the web3 wire

Will GTA 6 really include “real” money? 🤔
Twitter rumors have resurfaced suggesting the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series will include blockchain technology and play 2 earn features. But there is no indication of this from the dev team.

Sam Altman raises $115 million for WorldCoin wallet and ID products 🌎
WorldCoin is proposing the concept of “proof-of-personhood” which combines a universal ID with confirmation that a person is a real human and not an AI agent or bot.

ben.eth continues controversial memecoin promotions on Twitter 😒
As one of the biggest social media promoters of altcoins in this cycle, ben.eth has drawn ongoing criticism for persuading followers to invest in unvetted, suspicious, or blatant scam tokens.

@DCLBlogger explains why 2025 could be a banner year for web3

After a few years of talking web3 with big brands, MattyVerse feels ready to make a prediction.

He says that 2025 will be the year that currently emerging defi trends will break out and change the space.

What trends specifically? Experiential products.

That means web3-enabled ecosystems full of fun things to do and consume – games, IRL events, tickets, loyalty programs, movies, interactive content, etc.

Brands and companies can use web3 apps to deliver and monetize these non-static assets, expanding their IP across less tangible spaces and experiences.

By the time that happens, Matty predicts accessibility and interoperability barriers will have broken down, so regular customers will be able to enjoy the Internet of tomorrow.

@aakashg0 explains Nvidia’s huge market cap growth

In this Twitter thread, Akash talks us through the mindblowing price of Nvidia stock right now.

Nvidia's market cap got $200 billion bigger this week, more than PayPal, Spotify, and Airbnb …combined.

– That’s without announcing any new products, graphics cards, or other changes…

So what gives? Well, the company’s latest earnings report predicts Q2 revenue will be $3.8 billion higher than expected.

That’s because Nvidia GPUs are basically the engine behind the entire AI revolution (ChatGPT etc.)

So, as big data companies transition to AI-based computing, they’ll need to swap their current CPUs for Nvidia products.

The latest stock rise comes after an 87% increase in the value of Nvidia stock over the past 6 months. 😮‍💨

@NathanLands compiles the best current examples of what AI video can do

Nathan shows us what’s possible with the latest updates to AI video generators, in this thread compilation.

Included in the thread: Avatar if it was made by Wes Anderson, Mad Men-style scenes, trippy New York Tunnels, and an experiment by Roope Rainisto – who appears to be moving toward video after his breakout AI photography collection, Life in West America.

How many years till AI video hits Hollywood? 🤯

Nathan’s made a few threads documenting the rise of AI video tools – so check out this mega thread if you’re looking for more examples.

@TheJohnnyAI recaps how Canva is integrating AI tools into the platform

AI image generation and editing tools are now infiltrating big design programs.

Technically, software like Photoshop and Canva have included some AI features for years, helping users quickly fill an area, delete an element, or lasso an object.

But, in the past few weeks, these programs have begun the process of integrating generative AI tools – taking the role of AI in professional image production to new levels.

In a Twitter thread, Johnny.AI shares 10 “Magic” AI tools now available to Canva’s 125 million users. Including:

  • Magic Design, which chooses suitable fonts, images, and graphics based on existing content.

  • Magic Edit, which lets users swap or add elements by describing objects and indicating where they should appear in the existing image.

  • Magic Presentations, which makes it possible to generate an entire slide deck with a simple outline and set of notes.

And finally, @st4rnold takes a tour of El Salvador – and pays with BTC all the way

Lastly, Arnold shares some snaps from his vacation to El Salvador. 🏝️

The cool part? Each restaurant, coffee shop, Airbnb, and …surf school in thread accepts crypto payment in one form or another.

El Salvador became the first country in the world to formally make Bitcoin legal tender – and has since been embracing its role as an experiment in crypto society.

Here’s a PWC whitepaper on how the currency is being integrated within the country (from a couple of years ago).
