The spike is mainly due to the launch of BRC-20, a contract standard for fungible tokens, which allows the creation of meme coins and alt currencies on the Bitcoin blockchain.

Binance bails on its Voyager bailout 🤝Back in December, Binance agreed a $1 billion deal to save collapsed crypto broker Voyager and return deposits to out-of-pocket customers. Now, Binance is backing out of the acquisition, citing an "uncertain regulatory environment."

What's Metaverse Markup Language? (MML)

What's the connection between NFTs and the metaverse?

Ask most people in the space, and they'll tell you that NFTs prove ownership across platforms, so in the future, you'll be able to buy something in one area of web3 and keep it wherever you go in the metaverse.

Sounds neat – but how will that actually work?

"Interoperability" is the term that covers these kinds of cross-platform mechanics, and it's a tricky area of web3 development.

While a blockchain token might prove that you own an asset, that doesn't really mean much if you can't access or use your asset in a setting that's different from where you acquired it.

So what's the fix?

Rob Whitehead, CPO at Improbable, has an idea.

It's called MML – Metaverse Markup Language.

MML is a universal coding language designed specifically for metaverse applications.

It would act as web3's version of HTML and JavaScript.

So, instead of describing links and page layouts, MML would cover all the basic features you'd expect from a virtual world, including:

• 3D models

• images & audio

• real-time interactivity

• cross-platform reactivity

That last point is especially exciting – change an object in one metaverse, and the object also changes wherever it appears in other metaverses.

If most metaverses adopt MML standards, then it becomes possible for users to rock up to a Horizon Worlds concert in the form of their Otherside Koda, dressed in .SWOOSH wearables, with a wallet full of gamer trophies. 😂
