#1 Reboot protocol – a web3 arcade
Ever feel nostalgic for arcades?
The loud noises, flashing lights (questionable smells) and seemingly endless selection of fun, memorable gaming experiences.
In arcades, players can jump from platformers to shooters, spending tokens on the games they enjoy, and earning rewards by deploying their skills.
– And the only centralized power around to stop the fun is mall security.
That arcade experience could be returning in web3 form, with a whitepaper released this week by Pixel Vault.
It lays out the concept for Reboot – a new decentralized platform designed to empower game developers and players alike.
The gaming ecosystem is broken. It’s time for a reboot.

What is Reboot?
Reboot is a protocol that helps indie developers build and distribute games on the blockchain – and lets players compete and earn in an arcade-style cross-game economy.
What's in it for the devs?
Pixel Vault says that Reboot is designed to combat the narrow distribution funnel that defines the current gaming industry.
Developers are forced to ship games through centralized studios and platforms, which come with creative constraints, heavy fees, and a distancing between player ↔️ dev.
By going on-chain, Reboot should make it easier for developers to get their games in front of players – as well as integrate blockchain gaming features like ownable rewards and intelligent player matchmaking.
And for the players?
Those on-chain features mean data and stats can be carried between games, so players can build reputations, pools of assets, and even gaming careers.
A lack of platform fees should mean you'll encounter fewer in-game ads, loot boxes, and other monetized content.
And, the arcade pay-to-play model encourages a marketplace where the most popular games rise to the top
– not those with the biggest marketing budgets from AAA studios.
Ok, I like 👍 Gimme more info.
Here's the long and pretty technical 43-page whitepaper.
Zeekay, the Inhabitants' community member behind the proposal to bid on Mongraal's Dookey Dash key, has extracted some of the key information in a Twitter thread.
And in related news, Pixel Vault's long-awaited auto-brawler will be the first game to launch on Reboot.
Wen release? There was an impromptu Twitch stream yesterday hosted by Brycent featured two Pixel Vault team members:
Gfunk (CEO) confirmed that an alpha version of the auto-brawler will be coming in Q2, likely in May.
Goozeggz (Head of Gaming) talked Brycent through the whitepaper, and how it will people in different ways:
Streamers/influencers - through affiliate links/earning potential
Game developers - who don't have to focus on complex token ecosystems, as their games can integrate into the Reboot flywheel
Players - equitable matchups and verifiable odds (on-chain), low barrier to entry
Goozeggz vision is to have everyone involved in Reboot succeed, and not at the expense expense of players or game developers.

#3 Elon is recruiting for a ChatGPT competitor
After co-founding OpenAI, Elon Musk is once again throwing his hat into the AI ring.
Silicon Valley sleuth The Information reported that Elon has "approached artificial intelligence researchers in recent weeks about forming a new research lab to develop an alternative to ChatGPT."
That includes ex-Alphabet employees who developed the DeepMind machine-learning models.

Musk has been increasingly vocal on Twitter about supposed political biases in the way ChatGPT handles prompts — and how that may affect Bing's objectivity, now that the tech is integrated into the search engine.
For example, many claim that OpenAI's chatbot often refuses to produce negative portrayals of leftwing political figures, while being happy to do so for rightwing personalities.
OpenAI has acknowledged that biases do exist in the current iteration of its product.
But they say that criticisms often underestimate how user prompts affect the bot's responses.
They also point out that ChatGPT is a continual work in progress, and will need the help of society at large to find the right calibrations.
this is going to take continual iteration--and lots and lots of societal input--to get right.
to find the right balance, we will likely overcorrect several times, and find new edges in the technology. we appreciate the patience and good faith as we get to a better place!
