#1 Yuga Labs launches a collection of generative art

Three pieces of Yuga Labs news to update you on today!

First, it's TwelveFold โ€“ a collection of 300 generative artworks that Yuga has mintedย inscribed on the Bitcoin blockchain, following the recent Ordinals craze.

Unlike previous Yuga projects, TwelveFold seems to be the studio's first pure art collection โ€“ with no focus on narrative or ecosystem-building.

"[TwelveFold] will not have other utility or interact with or be related to any previous, ongoing, or future Ethereum-based Yuga projects."

(Which, you could say, only confirms the trend away from pfp collections towards OEs and artist-led projects.)

The artwork itself is ...pretty good? Not blowing my mind. But with only a couple of pieces shared so far, I'll reserve judgment.

Why generative, algorithmic art? In a blog post, Yuga says the sequential, mathematical nature of gen art acts as a homage to the Ordinals protocol.

Yuga also says they'll be releasing more info and details on TwelveFold nearer to the auction.

When that info comes, it would be good to get answers to a couple of questions:

Like โ€“ have these artworks already been inscribed onto Bitcoin's Satoshis?

If so, how low are the inscription numbers?

We're currently at over 210K Ordinals inscriptions, with earlier inscriptions inherently more desirable to collectors.

The first 100K and 200K inscriptions are commonly-held rarity benchmarks, so there's a chance that later inscriptions will affect TwelveFold's collectibility.

โ€“ Although, those benchmarks might not apply to the Yuga juggernaut.

Another question: who made these artworks?

Right now, the website FAQ says that the pieces were "crafted in-house by Yuga Labsโ€™ art team."

Art team? As in Seneca, the artist behind BAYC? Or the people making Otherside?

Generally, collectors want a chance to get to know the providence/portfolio of the artist they're buying from.

Final question: This isn't a cash grab, right, Yuga? ๐Ÿ˜œ ๐Ÿ˜˜

The TwelveFold auction will launch later this week.

24 hours before the auction goes live, Yuga Labs will post auction details and additional collection info on its official channels.

Bids will be in Bitcoin, and buyers will need an empty Bitcoin address to receive pieces.

#2 The key to the rarest Yuga asset changed hands

Next up on Yuga news, 18-yr old Dookey Dash winner Mongraalย sold his key!

The buyer, who paid ~$1.6 million, is Adam Weitsman, an Ape with a background in the scrap metal industry.

As a reminder, the Dookey Dash key is a pass to mint a 1/1 NFT representing the rarest asset in Yuga's latest narrative adventure, the Trial of Jimmy the Monkey.

The successful bid followed attempts to procure the coveted asset from Inhabtinant's DAO, the UPDAO โ€“ and the makers of Captainz & Potatoz, Memeland.

#3 Greg Solano confirms Otherside dates and deets

And lastly, Greg Solano made an appearance at NFT Paris over the weekend to confirm some tantalizing Otherside info.

@nftivmi gives us the TL;DR in a thread

So, what's the news?

  • There will be a persistent Otherside world by the end of the year ๐Ÿ‘€

  • The "Second Trip" demo remains on schedule for March

  • New environments, characters, and mechanics ready to be implemented

  • Otherside will aim to maximize interoperability for non-Yuga avatars

  • Ex-Activision Blizzard president and COO Daniel Alegre is about to take the helm

#4 MetaMask can now be integrated into Unity-based games

A sweet new feature just became available to developers of desktop and mobile games who use the major game engine Unity.

They can import MetaMask's new SDK (Software Development Kit) to let players connect to their mobile wallets within games.

In other words, it just became easier for developers to build web3-enabled gameplay features, like earning blockchain tokens, collecting tradeable skins, and buying character power-ups โ€“ all through one of the most trusted names in the space.

What you need to know

  • The SDK allows MetaMask โ€œmobile deep-linksโ€ and QR codes

  • Devs can distribute NFTs to player wallets

  • Players can buy, trade, and sign transactions in-game

In a thread announcing the SDK, Metamask noted that around a million users currently connect to over 40 blockchains to play web3 games on a daily basis.

Things are hotting up. And this announcement comes alongside the whitepaper drop for Pixel Vault's open gaming protocol, Reboot โ€“ which we'll be covering in tomorrow's newsletter.

MetaMask also revealed a $100K guidance grant to help web2 developers transition to web3 gaming models.

For the devs, here's the full documentation.

MetaMask says they're working on an SDK for the other big game engine, Unreal Engine.
