#143 - Web3 threads 🧶 of the week

GM daily-ers!

GM and welcome to Decentra Daily.

We're the newsletter that spends all week scrolling Twitter. Then we make this web3 threads round-up to pretend we've been doing actual work.

Today,

Web3 threads of the week

@sugarspicysauce puts some context behind the success of Checks

@sugarspicysauce kicks off the email with a tribute to Jack Butcher, the mind behind web3s hottest NFT collection, Checks.

Up and up the floor price goes, where will it stop? Nobody knows...

This thread covers Jack's marketing and branding background. It also gives the collection's accessible mint price and simple but meaningful visual concept one big ✅.

Over the past few days, we've seen Butcher's meme/derivative model really take off, with Checks references posted by the likes of Budweiser and Beeple.

If you missed it, Decentra Daily's Wiggles did his own Checks write-up a few emails back.

– and, NFTstatistics.eth ran the current market numbers on how much the rarest, end-stage "black checks" would cost if everybody burned their NFTs all the way down.

The value? 5200 ETH 😲

@PixlitEth on why now might be the right time to stop fading Cool Cats

After some time in the wilderness, Cool Cats is on a mission to transition from cute, cuddly pfps to a more flexible, gaming and metaverse-ready collection.

In this thread, @PixlitEth summarizes CC's sharper, bolder look and less child-focused aesthetic.

There's a good point in here about how branding isn't really about logos, colors, or ads. Instead, it's about product-market fit – how to place a project or collection within the web3 community.

In other Cool Cats news, the project is going multi-chain.

@pixelvault_ shares highlights from its latest gaming update

Here's a thread in video form (👍) from @pixelvault_ on their latest spaces update.

They say their "end-to-end" gaming protocol is still in production, which will hopefully allow developers to easily build and share games directly with players.

– and allow players to participate in a cross-game blockchain rewards economy. 👀

On the web3 wire

NounsDAO comic book series is coming 💥The series, expanding the narrative around Nouns avatars, will be available as a token, physical comic, and book.

Logan Paul is getting sued for CryptoZoo NFTs 👨🏻‍⚖️After CoffeeZilla's expose, someone else filed an official legal complaint against Paul's rug pull.

US unemployment is at its lowest rate for 50 years 🇺🇸And the news is causing uncertainty for the markets and interest rates.

@BoredApeYC with a Dookey Dash recap before the game ends next week

Yuga, like PV, could have done us a solid and split their gaming video update into a thread – but I guess we'll include it anyway. 🤷‍♀️

@BoredApeYC's vid is worth watching if you've seen their skill-based mint game pop up in your feed, but haven't been following the event closely.

So far in the swamp, players have been Dashing on their Apple Watches and VR headsets, and the top 10 scores have shifted on a daily basis.

You need a +500,000 run to break into the 1% club, and it looks like we'll see a +1 million high score before the sewer closes on Feb 8th.

@ElenaaETH on why everyone is making their Twitter accounts private

What's the deal with people setting their Twitter accounts to private this week?

In this thread, @ElenaaETH explains all. The trend began after Elon Musk saw a Tweet from @stillgray, claiming that setting your account to private makes more people see your tweets.

Elon followed suit, restricting his tweet visibility to only his nearest and dearest 127 million followers. And indeed, it does seem that the current iteration of Twitter's algorithm boosts private tweets over public ones.

Cue an avalanche of Twitter influencers going private in the never-ending search for likes.

When @ElenaaETH tried the trick herself, she found that a private post drew 3x the engagement of her public posts.

@LinusEkenstam on how to achieve a neat image effect on Midjourney

What's "knolling"? Some kind of unspeakable sex act?

No, my friend. Knolling is the act of arranging a set of objects at 90 degree-angles, then snapping them from above

– and now you can knoll til your heart's content via the AI image creator, Midjourney.

Here, @LinusEkenstam shares his knolling prompt tips and results, including knolled pebbles, Star Wars characters, and sushi.

@ethernaz on how to make your bag using AI and a little lateral thinking

On the subject of AI, when are we gonna be able to use it to make a s*** load of money?

According to @ethernaz: pretty soon, if you follow the method of breaking complex business ideas down into simple components.

Examples? How about using AI automation to create a movie, by harnessing image, music, and text generation?

Or, how about jumping on the virtual influencer trend? Or teaching AI to make current manual processes more efficient or enjoyable?

Decentra Daily is brought to you by Illuvium

Hey there, champ! I see you like playing video games.

They sure are fun, aren't they?

Well, if you like those games, you might also like this...

Explore the alien Overworld to mine, harvest, and capture Illuvials. Then train and fuse your Illuvials into powerful evolutions ready for battle.

Wen release date, I hear you scream?

I know you're keen. It's coming soon. But first, the developers need your help.

Illuvium is currently inviting players to its private beta, to test out their gameplay in a PvE Survival Mode Autobattler.

Players battle against waves of increasingly difficult Illuvials. Total victory is impossible – it's a matter of how long you'll survive.

Private beta testers compete for daily high scores that get combined into a leaderboard.

@manifoldxyz on its new revenue model, which includes small buyer fees

How does Manifold make money? – Is the question I screamed as I roamed the streets, grabbing passersby by their collars.

Nobody knew the answer. Luckily, @manifoldxyz stepped in and posted this thread, explaining some updates to their revenue model.

A gas-like fee will now be charged to buyers on Manifold Apps, assigned per piece and independent of the value of the item being purchased.

Deploying smart contracts and minting through Manifold Studio will remain free of charge.

And finally, @davincithreads on CryptoPunks' origins

If you're after a longer weekend read, @davincithreads shares this story of what it was like to discover CryptoPunks back in 2017.

(As originally told by WhaleStakepool on Reddit.)

It's a tale that includes red-lining computers for 48 hours to sync them with Ethereum, scary contract glitches, and minting over 1,000 Punks...
