This year's Super Bowl will have a live NFT mint

With the final weekend of the NFL season down, the road to the Super Bowl in Arizona has begun.

Last year's big game may as well have been renamed the Crypto Bowl, with the then-biggest web3 companies all buying airtime.

We got ads and sponsorships from FTX, Meta, Crypto.com, Coinbase, and more.

Since those halcyon days, things in web3 have changed a little...

Safe to say, this year's Alternative Puppy Bowl won't be quite so bullish on crypto exchanges.

But that doesn't mean there won't be any web3 presence โ€“ in fact, when the NFL rolls into Arizona, we should see the first Super Bowl ad for an NFT collection.

DigiDaigaku's $6 million 30 secs of air time

Back in October, Web3 gaming studio Limit Break announced they'd spent $6.5 million on a 30-second Super Bowl LVII ad slot.

What are their plans?

They'll use the time to promote their NFT game / collection, DigiDaigaku โ€“ and they won't just run a standard ad.

According to a recent tweet thread, the DigiDaigaku ad will feature a free NFT mint, which is the first of its kind (at least in the US).

During the game, Limit Break's ad will show a QR code that viewers can scan to mint a limited edition "Digidaigaku Dragon."

The team behind the ad says they're still working out the details for how viewers without wallets can take part.

What is DigiDaigaku?

  • DigiDaigaku is an NFT character collection and gamified experience

  • NFTs currently maintain a high floor of 12 ETH (at time of writing)

  • Full gameplay details are yet to be released, but will revolve around crafting-based hero and villian quests

  • The project founders previously ran mobile game developers Machine Zone, who produced Game of War and a Final Fantasy mobile game.

  • So far, the project has kept a pretty low profile, operating on "stealth mode"

Any other web3 super bowl plans?

OKX announced last year that they want to create an โ€œaspirationalโ€ ad about the potential of Web3, but no firm details have been released yet.

Apart from that, crypto and NFT companies are staying quiet.

I guess nobody wants to be accused of splashing the cash during a bear market โ€“ and maybe the association between Super Bowl ads and FTX is still too strong.

But, we'll keep you posted on any Super Bowl plans that come up over the next month.

Y00t's no-strings grant from Polygon chain

Remember the news that DeLab's two big NFT collections, DeGods and Y00ts, are leaving the Solana blockchain?

Now, we know that the studio received $3 million to sweeten the deal โ€“ specifically, to secure Y00ts on the Polygon chain.

According to a statement from project founder @frankdegods, the money will fund a crypto incubator to produce new NFT collections, purchasable with points from the DeLabs ecosystem:

Reminder: What are Y00ts?

Y00ts is a 15,000-strong pfp collection, created by LA studio DeLabs after the success of their initial collection, DeGods.

Until they move chains, you can find Y00ts on the Solana marketplace, Magic Eden.

Why Polygon though?

Aside from the (seemingly no strings attached) cash, Frank says that DeLabs chose Polygon because they think it will help the project break into the mainstream.

They're hiring more staff to produce a bigger content output and forge partnerships with other brands and businesses.

On Discord, Frank teased that y00ts could team up with some of Polygon's recent big-brand partnerships, which include Starbucks, Coca-Cola, and Disney... ๐Ÿ‘€
