#123 - Web3 threads 🧶 of the week

GM daily-ers!

GM and welcome to Decentra Daily.

That's week one of 2023 down –

which means it's time to round up the best web3 yarns from the last seven days.

Today,

Web3 threads of the week

@brycent_ on what Web3 games need to do to win this year

Web3 games get a lot of hype in the space for their unquestionable potential.

But when it comes to real gameplay and results, examples are thin on the ground.

Here, @brycent_ lists his must-haves for any web3 game that wants to break into the big leagues.

Criteria include: being free 2 play to encourage community growth; focusing on engaging players instead of posting Facebook ads, and absolutely nailing a core gameplay loop.

P.S. Check out Wolf Game and InfiniMerge for two projects that value gameplay > talk.

@web3_ready on how to quickly assess any NFT project

In web3, life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could find yourself...

...rugged and down an ETH with nothing but a JPG to show for it.

So, how do you make investment decisions when people are talking and floor prices are rising, without repeatedly getting caught out by the market?

This thread from @web3_ready is a solid NFT buyers checklist, which should get you focused on tangible things like use case value, founder credentials, and long-term community prospects – instead of a "number go up" mentality.

On the web3 wire

@LeoAlhalabi on why we're sleeping on .eth sub-domains

Updates to ENS domains now mean that .eth sub-domains can be traded just like NFTs.

So, a sub-domain of DecentraDaily.eth – such as whale.DecentraDaily.eth – could be sold as its own asset. How much you offering?

What's the use case for this? In this thread, @LeoAlhalabi imagines how a big brand like Gucci could offer valued community members official sub-domains to flex out in the world.

JJ Delgado with some super interesting/helpful AI tools

Does a Linkedin post count as a thread? No, it does not.

Am I a renegade who refuses to play by the rules? 🤷‍♀️

Here, JJ Delgado, who makes the bold choice of using the hang loose emoji in his LinkedIn name, lists a few recent AI startups that you can use to boost your online persona.

Included are the AI logo maker Looka, and Resume Worded, which scans your resume and LinkedIn profile to help you pass interview screening stages.

I tried this one – it scored my resume 20 out of 100. Guess that's why I'm writing this email and not working for a legit web3 company like FTX. 😑

@davincithreads gives us everything we need to know about Renga NFTs

In this megathread, @davincithreads collects key details on the steadily-growing NFT project, Renga.

Renga is an anime pfp collection created by Japan-based illustrator @DirtyRobotWorks.

Without a roadmap, Renga is an art and vibe-focused community of collectors.

Check out this thread of threads for a history of the artist, collection lore, and upcoming Renga collaborations.

Decentra Daily is brought to you by CoinLedger

Let's face it, doing taxes when you hold digital assets can feel like being stuck on an Interstellar spaceship with Matthew McConaughey.

If only there was a popular, fully integrated crypto & NFT tax tool that saved you time...

CoinLedger is the most trustworthy crypto tax software in the game, saving their 300K+ users over $50 million in tax reduction opportunities.

How does CoinLedger work?

  • Import your wallet or exchange profile

  • CoinLedger scans your assets & transactions for the biggest tax savings

  • Export the results to TurboTax, H&R Block, or your accountant

Don't get stuck in a time loop come tax season. With billion of dollars in transaction volume and partnerships with leading platforms, CoinLedger makes crypto taxes a breeze. Alright, alright, alright.

And finally, @mbrandolph with some sage advice on the value of ideas

Presumably, Netflix co-founder @mbrandolph knows a thing or two about implementing a disruptive idea.

In this thread, Randolph goes heavy on the cruel-but-kind approach – with some advice for wannabe founders trying to move forward from the ideas stage of a project.

His take? No one's gonna steal your idea. No one really cares about your idea.

In fact, your idea is probably trash – and that's fine.

Because it takes doing the work, trying, failing, and evolving, to refine an original idea into something that actually works.

Now go have a great weekend and cheer for the Lions & Seahawks. 👋
